Creating a Blueprint for Success
Are you concerned with the challenges of HB5 or see a need for systemic change in public education? Bring your great ideas to this workshop session and be a part of developing a blueprint for success. This session will be the initial work of a network of professionals who will begin the design work of a document that can help guide districts to success for all students.
Karla Sandoval has been an educator for more than 20 years…as a teacher, middle school counselor and high school Career and Technical Education counselor. Karla was involved in the instructional design and planning for the career academies at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School in Spring ISD. The campus is a school of choice for over 1500 students in grades 9-12 and features three separate academies that incorporate 15 different career pathways. All Wunsche HS students are expected to carry a rigorous course load, complete an internship, and present an annual “milestone project” culminating in a senior “capstone project” prior to graduation. The campus has achieved both national and international recognition, been featured on the ABC television program 20/20, earned the designation of “Model Career Academy” by the National Career Academy Coalition, been named a 2016 national “Breaking Ranks Showcase School” by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Center for Secondary School Redesign, and received the 2016 “Excellence in Action Award” for the Legal Studies program by Advance CTE. Karla served as the Director of Professional Learning Experiences at Wunsche HS from 2007-2013 and currently serves as Academy Coordinator for the campus.
